A Canadian Reunion.
What a year it has been, eh? Mid last year, I finally made the big moose move to Canada, and it’s been f*cking awesome so far. As I sit in front of the Booster Juice at YVR Airport preparing this post, I can’t help but look back at all the good things and good people that happened to me in 2021, and be thankful.
The last two years have not been easy for most of us, and I’m so glad that I am still here (along with my loved ones). There were inevitable deaths and departures, but I see them as facts of life. On a brighter note, I have also reunited with my parents (albeit for a fleeting few weeks) last month, and spent the year end holidays as a family here in Van City. There was a ton of videos that Dad and I took collectively, and some even made it onto my YouTube. I’ve come to realize videos are much better at capturing those precious moments, and — knock on wood, if when they are no longer around, at least I have those videos to look back on and reminisce.
This trip to Vancouver was also kind of a recce trip for me — I wanted to see what it’s like living in other provinces (and the respective cities). I still like Montréal (QC), but I think Burnaby (BC) is also a conducive place to live. Don’t get me wrong, Winnipeg will always hold a special place in my heart, but I’m not certain if the job opportunities will be good for the existing saturation within the city. Anyway, it’s always good to have a backup or two, right? After exploring the cities for two weeks-ish, I already have my Plans B and C drafted, so let’s see how things unfold. We all know this Omicoronademic will evolve again next year, and with that, changes to the immigration policy may follow. As the Chinese saying goes, 计划赶不上变化 (plans always fall behind changes), so I will learn to let go and let God. In the meantime, I will continue to excel in my post-grad course, and hopefully, score a good internship in Summer which would (again, fingers crossed) help me secure a job by the time I graduate.
To all my Singaporean friends and family, I miss you all! Hope you guys had a great-ish 2021, and are kicking off the New Year on a good note.
To my partner-in-crime, I am so glad that you are progressing well at work, and I hope you’ll be able to join me here in the True North very soon. Perhaps ring the wedding bells together? I miss you so much.
Wellp, I guess it’s time for Mom and I to head back to reality in Winterpeg. I was just checking the weather and it is currently -26°c. 🥶 The only consolation is classes will still be remote until at least February, so we should be good for now. I can’t imagine the feeling of standing at the bus stop with no shelter, waiting for the bus to arrive in 30 minutes, and being further being delayed by the snow.
Okay, enough with the Winter talk for now. Sending you guys good vibes for 2022~ Happy New Year everyone!
